Huge compliments to Amarante. Place right on the river (which we secretly jumped into) and left the heat of the day behind us. Everything was free, the city provided us with internet and toilets. Stunningly beautiful old town in the immediate vicinity with good restaurants and cafes and fantastic opportunities along and across the Rio Tâmega. So, totally thrilled!!!

seemed idiilic when we parked up. The slots weren’t big enough for motorhomes so we parked by the river. We parked on a Saturday night.- no market on Sunday but the youth of the area came in their cars and were outside the vans talking and revving up their car engines until 2am. There are toilets on the walk to the village but we didn’t go in them.
