Illugastadir seal watching observatory

Four stars because it was quiet here, with a beautiful view, clean restrooms, and warm water. The seals were napping or playing in the water. In short: a great place. The road is only 13 km of gravel. And for a gravel road, the quality was excellent.

We also came here because it is on the list of the Icelandic csmpingcard. The payment machine apparently does not know this. The 20 km gravel road is reasonable, but not inviting. We paid 5000 Kr with two seniors. We found the only really flat spot behind the toilet etc. cubicle. We were the first. The others had to make a bit more effort. The view over the sea is beautiful. Seals were absent tonight.

The campsite will only open after June 20. The road to it from Hvammstangi is very difficult to drive with a camper. Distance is about 20 km. The campsite only opens this late because otherwise the seal breeding season would be disrupted. No formal review, but practical information.
