We are hesitant about giving a fourth star (due to the available facilities and the extremely friendly harbourmasters), but we were not happy with the layout of the motorhome site. Well, that is, if you have a spot in the first row. In the end, we got a spot in the third row (tight for a 7.8m camper). The site was permanently full (high season?). The town itself is clearly a victim of WWII; little original history, but a wide choice of restaurants.

Friendly welcome. Facilities are available, but rather makeshift. Getting water is no problem, but emptying the toilet cassette into the regular toilet (doesn't seem like a hygienic solution), and disposing of grey water is not possible. Upon departure, we saw a ‘sold’ sign, so we suspect the current owner is closing down. But I would just give it a try… (beautiful surroundings).

Normally, there are three spots for campers. However, it doesn't seem to be a problem to park a camper for the night in the regular car park. The spot is fine, with a view of the water (in the distance). The car park is busy with walkers and swimmers. No facilities, except for a trash can. Good for one night.

During the day, there are many people heading to the mines and visitors to the swimming area opposite the parking lot. Wonderfully quiet in the evening and at night. No facilities, but in our opinion the best overnight spot of the three: the first one near the service station + the smaller site opposite it and the spot opposite the entrance to the mines. When it gets busy, spots between the posts are occupied by two campers.

No doubt about the rating: positive, and mainly due to the helpful (!!) and friendly owners. You are escorted to your pitch in a professional manner. Access to facilities is via a card, which you use to pay for showers and the washing machine/dryer. There are two sanitary buildings, the most luxurious of which is near the reception. WiFi is mediocre, but that is understandable given the massive mountains next to the campsite. WiFi is okay at the reception.

Indeed, the four stars are mainly for the spot by the river, peace, and space. But no amenities and yet charging €200 NOK or €20.00, that doesn't feel quite right. Especially on the south coast of Norway, we get the impression that the prices of motorhomes and campsites are going through the roof. That must have something to do with the ferries.

Motorhome parking, pay per 24 hours at the machine. Wi-Fi code doesn't work; didn't use the toilet/shower; a bit ridiculous to have two sanitary facilities for about 50 motorhomes. Trash cans available. Not a pleasant atmosphere at the campsite, but you come for the town and that is really worth it. It's practically a battle for the spots on the harbor edge; logical, as the second row is heavily affected by passing traffic. Looked at the town... time to leave.

A good location for a stopover. Small pitches, but crossing at the rear is possible. At the ‘official’ camper spots, there is a picnic bench with a waste bin. There is a drinking water tap and toilet (public) at the cottage. In the vicinity, there is a small river with swimming and walking opportunities, and a small supermarket 150 meters away. Lots of traffic passing by, but quiet in the evening and at night.

Short turn, a bit steep and narrow downhill to get onto the small plateau. But… don’t panic, because we managed just fine (with a 7.8m camper +3.5 tons). Once you’re parked, you’ll never forget this view. You need a bit of luck, because it was full at first, so we had to have lunch in Breitostølen, then came back and there was a spot. There was passing traffic, but it was quiet in the evening/night.
