Lovely reception from the female owner who looks after the bar. She speaks French as well as her native Spanish. An old fashioned style site with grassy flat pitches, and peaceful. The only negative was no hot water for washing dishes.

The location is okay; however it makes for an extremely busy site. It is expensive for what is on offer: vans & tents squashed in like sardines; no raclette to clean the showers which were covered with long hair; a bit of disinfectant & bleach wouldn’t go amiss; the campsite gates remain open overnight; finally we were plagued by small English children running around the vans with torches & squealing until 11pm. Parents, please.

This campsite is poorly maintained & is unclean - the toilets had not been serviced for some time & dead hornets everywhere. We were overcome with flies & an odd smell in the camping grounds. Owner very unwelcoming & completely disinterested, very expensive. Would not recommend.

This is a beautiful & historic town & well worth a visit. Lots of climbing! Beginning of December & first phase of much work commenced along river front (for 4 months) so expect worker’s noise from just after 7am. Piling work across the river too. Needed Campingaz, none in town but can be purchased from Brico Marché in Beja (lovely helpful staff). Mértola, we will return, thank you for this space.

Wonderful, excellent walking, laid-back & pleasant owner. Lovely area & great views.

Probably one of the worst sites we have stayed on - French owned dogs running around without leashes; filthy facilities; homeless leaving beer bottles on-site; electric not functioning on our spot. Thankfully there was fresh water & waste area & good walking.
