We arrived this evening. Ring the doorbell at the gate. Asked if we could stay the night and the only answer was 'Ferme'. Closed. Nothing else. So I don't quite understand when that heartwarming welcome is there, but certainly not at 7 p.m.

it is not closed. there are fences in front of it in the evening but they can be opened.
