La Gravelotte

View of (part of) the glacier, stunning. We were here last week (September 6) for 5 days. High season ends on August 31, so no more bread roll service or pizza in the bar. You can still get a beer though. Supermarket in the village, which is down the hill, a short 15-minute walk away. Nice village, not too touristy. The lift times to the glacier have also changed as of August 31: from Thu. to Sun. Nice campsite, you choose your own spot. Sanitary facilities are fine.

Amazing view to start with! La Grave is located nearby at 3200m – with a small supermarket close by. No fixed pitches, so there is always a spot somewhere. Plenty of shade if you don't arrive too late. Very nice managers and a great, relaxed atmosphere at the campsite. Lovely swimming pool. The only downside: the sanitary facilities are inadequate during peak hours. So you just have to wait a bit...

Since La Meije, after several attempts, hadn't chosen a spot for Gravelotte in the first week of August. Reservations for less than three days are not possible, but arrive before noon and there's still plenty of room. Don't be put off by the "complete" signs at the entrance! The restrooms are fine, as far as I'm concerned. Never wait longer than 10 minutes. The waterfront spots are nice, but the road along them gets quite dusty and sometimes gets driven on quickly.
