The life course of Campercontact

Do you know how Campercontact started and in what year it was? We would like to give you a short history lesson with the subject: Campercontact.

Life course Campercontact

2003

Campercontact was founded under the guidance of motorhome owner Dick Roose (Dutch). As a passionate camper Dick Roose missed a place where people shared beautiful motorhome sites with each other. With that wish in mind he started Campercontact.

2004

Within a year after the launch of the Campercontact platform, the first redesign is already a fact. At that time there were 2,692 motorhome spots on Campercontact in 6 countries (see flags on the left). Campercontact grew so fast with the help of moderators. For Dick alone it was too much work.

Top left, the well-known Campercontact squirrel. At that time the golden squirrel was awarded annually by Campercontact to motorhome locations that received a very high rating from motorhome owners. Nowadays we have a similar award, but without the squirrel: the 'Motorhome locations of the Year'.

2008

In this year, the success of Campercontact, now 10,176 sites, became a little too much for Dick Roose. NKC takes over from Dick to further expand the success of Campercontact. The NKC, in full 'De Nederlandse Kampeerauto Club ('The Dutch Motorhome Club)' is still the parent company of Campercontact.

An off-line version of Campercontact was offered in the form of a DVD.

2012

The second major redesign of Campercontact. The first redesign under the leadership of NKC. Campercontact now had 14,697 locations in 34 countries and is still growing. Previously, Campercontact was only available in a number of other languages via an automatic translation widget, but now Campercontact is also available in multiple languages (see flags at the top of the website). This same year we said goodbye to the squirrel.

2013

Launch of the app Campercontact

2015

A major update in March this year. With as result a big change in the design of the website. At that time Campercontact was a platform consisting of an app and website with 18.574 motorhome sites (divided in 3 categories) in 38 countries

2018

Spring 2018 it was time for something new. Campercontact now had 25,726 motorhome sites in 51 countries and underwent a redesign resulting in the website and app below. Including its own recognizable logo and the now so recognizable house style colors orange and green.

2020

Both the Campercontact app and the website have been completely modernized. The design meets the latest standards in app and web design and the focus is now even more on the app. Adding content in the form of motorhome sites, photos and reviews and submitting changes to existing content has been simplified and the extensive search and filtering possibilities make it even easier to search for sites.

2021

In the new year we will make Campercontact even more complete and user-friendly. All with the aim of optimally facilitating your motorhome enthusiasm. Curious what to think about then? Read more about it here.

Motorhoming more popular than ever

Even in times of Covid19 a lot remains possible for the motorhomer. As a motorhome owner, or renter, you are self-sufficient, because you often have your own sanitary facilities on board. This is ideal at a time when the sanitary facilities at a motorhome site or campsite are closed due to the pandemic. You already knew that travelling by motorhome is the perfect way to spend your holidays. But more and more people are realising this! And that is reflected in the figures and our year in review 2021.
