Capela de Sao Domingos [Deixe o Monte]

We stayed here for two nights as a base for visiting the Douro valley. Apart from waste bins, there were no other services (although there was a toilet block by the chapel . There was a surprising amount of traffic during the evenings, including the police who called both days. Magnificent views in all directions and a quiet place to stay the night.

This place still exists and is as described: Great location, but basically no services. It is not an official place, but there is ample room and nobody is bothered. We liked here and would gladly come back.

Rough land at the top of the hill, church nearby & picnic area with tables, toilets (very basic) & water (not treated) Church bells chime every 15mins but sound lovely. Very remote but fine for overnight stopover & felt safe. Ignore satnav if it tries to turn you sharp right just drive through town & follow the road up, there are signs for campsite which is in same direction
