The winners!

  Camperplaats De Weitens
  Camperplaats De Weitens

Most sustainable initiative: The Netherlands           Camperplaats De Weitens (101010)

Located in a walnut grove on a family farm, this motorhome site has set up a variety of sustainable activities, including collecting and reusing rainwater, selling local food products to support the local economy, and the educational insect trail they created in collaboration with the city council. The jury found these initiatives to be both clever and sustainable.

 Hoeve 't Hof Bellewaerde
Hoeve 't Hof Bellewaerde

Most sustainable initiative: Belgium                  Hoeve 't Hof Bellewaerde (98095)

We were excited to learn about this motorhome site's water purification system and the introduction of an innovative feature called phytoparking. This is a special kind of parking space that uses plants and greenery instead of just concrete and asphalt. This kind of green parking helps reduce pollution, as the plants filter pollutants from the air and soil. The jury was convinced of the site's commitment to preserving nature and heritage.

Naturpark Camping Prinzenholz
Naturpark Camping Prinzenholz

Most sustainable initiative: Germany            Naturpark Camping Prinzenholz (18632)

This campsite excels at boosting the local economy. The service water is heated with solar energy, and a modern ventilation system with thermo-recovery is installed in the laundry house. In addition, they have a green roof that isolates in winter and shields against heat in summer, acting as a natural air-conditioning system. This green roof also produces oxygen, absorbs radiation, and benefits bees, insects, and birdsong.

Most sustainable initiative: France             Ferme Sinsac (102041)

Located on a 350-metre hill with beautiful views, this motorhome site at an eco-farm boasts 4 hectares of nature reserves with many species of birds and a variety of vegetables. The farm is very strong on biodiversity, grows its own fruits and vegetables, and reuses spring water. It is also notable that they chose limestone as paving instead of asphalt. The jury finds it extraordinary that a motorhome site that is already doing so much has even more sustainable ambitions.

Camping Schartner Alm
Camping Schartner Alm

Most sustainable initiative: Italy                     Camping Schartner Alm (79717)

Imagine falling asleep in the middle of the forest to the sound of trees and waking up to the birds chirping... This motorhome site convinced the jury by reusing rainwater, maintaining a swimming pool without chemicals, and using local products, as well as planting more than 300 trees.

 La Fabrica Dolores
La Fabrica Dolores

Most sustainable initiative: Spain                 La Fabrica Dolores (101811)

This motorhome site offers a wide range of cultural and recreational activities and events. They were chosen as Spain's winner not only because they are a sustainable site that recycles grey water into organic compost, protects nature, and plants trees, but also because they organize major clean-up events in the region.

About the expert jury

Marieke van Dijl, sustainability programme leader at the NKC, and Melanie and Mariëlle Masseurs, owners of CamperHomie, had the honor of judging the Campercontact Sustainability Award. As judges, the three of them were blown away by the many submissions and surprising initiatives. "So many entrepreneurs are already consciously doing something about sustainability, not only in terms of saving energy or water, separating waste, cleaning up, or greening their organizations, but also in considering the social part and biodiversity," said the jury. The jury judged based on all these different facets.
